Conference Mission Statement: (From conference by-laws) The AJCU Conference for Pastoral, Theological and Ministerial Education is grounded in an Ignatian vision and seeks to discern ways to build on the strengths of its member programs by a commitment to: Communicate with one another and with Catholic and other religious structures and organizations, in regard to issues of pastoral, theological and ministerial education; Collaborate on issues and projects of common concern and explore the implications of trends, research and documents that inform pastoral, theological and ministerial education; Advocate for pastoral, theological and ministerial education for a diverse church and access to Jesuit, university-based professional education, especially for the marginalized; and to our colleges and universities, the Church and society.
The AJCU Pastoral Conference is relatively new, having been founded in 2010. The conference puts an emphasis on informal ways that members can collaborate, without abandoning institutional efforts at collaboration. a primary goal is to continue building the networks of relationships that will make collaboration possible. Similarly, members continue to foster efforts at dialogue among departments within Jesuit colleges and universities, and the conference continues to be a forum for fostering national conversations about how to develop collaborative relationships between theology/religious studies departments and pastoral/ministerial theology departments.
