WASHINGTON, DC – The Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities (AJCU) has announced the resignation of Sr. Maureen Fay, OP as Director of the AJCU Seminar on Higher Education Leadership. Dr. Stephanie Russell, Vice President for Mission and Ministry at Marquette University, has accepted the directorship, while continuing to serve in her current role at Marquette.

Over the past eight years, Sr. Fay coordinated the annual leadership development program that addresses the many issues facing academic and administrative leaders who will guide Jesuit institutions deep into the 21st century. Prior to her work with the Seminar, Sr. Fay served as president of the University of Detroit Mercy from 1990 to 2004, and as president of Mercy College of Detroit from 1983 to 1990.

In gratitude for Sr. Fay’s service, AJCU President Fr. Gregory Lucey, SJ said, “I am thankful to have had Sr. Fay serve as director of the AJCU Seminar on Higher Education Leadership, which has grown significantly over the past eight years. Her knowledge and experience of Jesuit higher education have helped to build this program, which has served over 300 leaders from our institutions.”

Over the next year, Dr. Russell, who has two decades of experience promoting and developing Jesuit mission and identity programs, will conduct an assessment of the Seminar and coordinate the 2013 program, which is scheduled to take place in June at Loyola University Chicago.

Fr. Lucey said, “Dr. Russell is a proven capable leader in Jesuit higher education, and I am confident that under her directorship, the Seminar will continue to grow and influence future leaders of our Jesuit colleges and universities.”
