JesuitNET Design Services (JDS) has assisted AJCU schools develop online initiatives for more than a decade. Based on best-practices, we offer a systematic framework for developing an institution's capacity to integrate online education into their academic program offerings. This framework consists of the processes, policies, and systems needed to begin an online learning enterprise. The framework is flexible, and can be customized to the specific needs of each individual educational environment.

Organizational Development
JesuitNET Design Services (JDS) works with leadership teams, faculty, IT departments, mission and identity offices, instructional technology groups, and librarians at colleges and universities, to develop the necessary internal skills for creating, sustaining, and expanding online initiatives. By investing in the development of these constituencies, educational institutions build expertise across the organization, prepare themselves for the future, and lower their expenses.

Faculty and Staff Development
Jesuit education is transformational, and seeks to form men and women of competence, conscience, and compassion. Teachers who wish to develop educational programs consistent with the goals and themes of Jesuit education benefit in essential ways from the experience of Ignatian Pedagogy as a framework to inform their teaching. JesuitNET Design Services offers faculty seminars that allow teachers to explore the elements of this Pedagogy in the context of their own teaching practice. They learn how to emphasize critical thinking, develop learning communities, integrate technology to enhance learning, and engage students in the global and ethical dimensions of the complex world in which they live.

Online Course Development
Hybrid, online, self-paced, and massive-open-online courses (MOOCS) are among the various forms of distributed education, that serve the needs of different learner populations. JesuitNET Design Services helps schools determine the right format, given their organizational goals. Faculty who participate in JesuitNET Design Services seminars build online curriculum consistent with the objectives and themes of Jesuit education. As they learn how to translate face-to-face processes into the various online formats, these faculty apply their knowledge to develop online learning environments. Online courses emphasize critical thinking, reflective activities for enhancing personal transformation, and the use of technological resources for promoting access and individual learning in a globalized world.

Quote of the week

"Immersion experiences can open eyes, destroy prejudice, and change lives. I have watched countless students return from developing countries as changed persons, with renewed hearts eager to live as men or woman for others."
Rev. Stephen A. Privett, S.J., President of the University of San Francisco, commenting on the power of immersion experiences

AJCU Conferences

The 35+ Conferences sponsored by the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities (AJCU) are affinity groups within the AJCU Network. The Conferences provide a forum for the exchange of ideas, information and best practices; support the professional development of their members; and present opportunities for AJCU representatives to discuss opportunities and challenges in Jesuit higher education. Most of the AJCU Conference groups meet in person at least once a year, and many of them communicate regularly through an AJCU listserv.
