Regis University proudly hosted the 2014 AJCU Facilities, Public Safety and Sustainability Conference from April 6-9. Sessions highlighted valuable information on energy savings, team building, emergency management, and space and master planning, as well as a tour of the National Renewable Energy Laboratory’s net-zero energy facility in Golden, Colorado.

Conference Mission Statement: To create a safe and collegial environment for leadership from AJCU institutions to share best practices and opportunities for improvement related to public safety, facilities and sustainability that are consistent with and affirm our Jesuit tradition.

This conference is comprised of facilities, public safety and sustainability professionals at the 28 Jesuit colleges and universities in the U.S. They meet annually at an AJCU institution and engage in conversations about facilities, public safety and sustainability throughout the year via AJCU listserv.

Incorporated into the programming of annual conferences is significant time spent on the campus of the host institution so that participants may take away first-hand understanding of the host institution’s operation from a facilities, security and sustainability perspective. While mindful of the varying nuances of each campus, over the years it has been affirming to conference participants to know that others are facing similar challenges, especially as they work to provide similar services to campus communities in a manner that is consistent with Jesuit tradition.

Quote of the week

"One of the key phrases capturing the charism of Ignatian spirituality is “to love and serve in all things.” Here lies the key to Jesuit higher education in the 21st century. For a Jesuit university should ask more of its students by challenging them to make Ignatius’ charge—his notion of service—their own."
Rev. Kevin P. Quinn, S.J., President, University of Scranton

AJCU Conferences

The 35+ Conferences sponsored by the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities (AJCU) are affinity groups within the AJCU Network. The Conferences provide a forum for the exchange of ideas, information and best practices; support the professional development of their members; and present opportunities for AJCU representatives to discuss opportunities and challenges in Jesuit higher education. Most of the AJCU Conference groups meet in person at least once a year, and many of them communicate regularly through an AJCU listserv.
