Spring Hill College Inaugurates Rev. Richard Salmi, SJ as 38th President

On Friday, October 23rd, Rev. Richard Salmi, SJ was inaugurated as the 38th president of Spring Hill College in Mobile, AL.

Prior to his role at Spring Hill, Fr. Salmi served as the vice president for student affairs at both Loyola University Chicago and John Carroll University.  In the early 1990’s, he served in Uganda as a priest and health care provider to AIDS-patients.  Fr. Salmi is originally from Cleveland, OH and entered the Society of Jesus in 1973.

In his inauguration speech, Fr. Salmi spoke of his vision for Spring Hill College: “I believe the time is right for us to become global thinkers, learners, and collaborators.  Let us together recognize our responsibility to prepare ourselves and our students to confront the challenges that face our world.

As we look at the changing face of America and of our world, Spring Hill College needs to be a welcoming place for all people and all faiths, a place where once again first generations of college students are given the opportunity to excel and are prepared to be leaders in service to others.”
