Reports on Justice Initiatives in AJCU Institutions

Introduction

In October, 2000, delegates from all 28 U.S. Jesuit colleges and universities met at Santa Clara University to discuss the Commitment to Justice by Jesuit Higher Education. That national conference had been preceded by institutional self-studies and three regional conferences.

The highlight of the Santa Clara conference was the keynote address by the Superior General of the Jesuits, Father Peter Hans Kolvenbach, S.J. In response to the conference and especially to Father Kolvenbach's address, the delegates promised to return to their campuses and help develop specific initiatives appropriate to their campuses.

It was also agreed that the AJCU website would be used to make public those initiatives. Thus the alphabetical listing of initiatives by school that follows. It is expected that these postings will be updated from time to time, but they already witness to the serious and significant ways in which our campuses are responding to Father Kolvenbach's challenge.

These reports should be read in conjunction with the Kolvenbach address and other conference documents as found on the Santa Clara website.  Please click here to access the site.

Another important source of information is the collection of the Model Programs for Justice on each of our campuses, which can be found by clicking here.
