International Jesuit Institutions

Preface

For more than 450 years, Jesuit education has had a profound effect on our world.  Beginning with their first college in Messina, Sicily in 1548, Jesuits soon became known as the schoolmasters of Europe because of their highly regarded schools and their pre-eminence as scholars. The number of Jesuit schools reached 740, and Jesuits were at the center of the intellectual world, beginning a long tradition of educating leaders in all walks of life.

Today, our 28 U.S. Jesuit colleges and universities are proud to be a part of an international network of over 100 institutions of higher learning in 27 countries.  Each school has the distinction of being of being at once local, regional, national and international.  Although our institutions operate independently with various forms of governance, they share a strong commitment to the Ignatian tradition and take very seriously their responsibility to provide a rigorous education for lives of scholarship, leadership, service, and global citizenship.

We invite you to review the list of our sister institutions.  As we pursue an increasing number of relationships with them, we are working together to humanize the forces of globalization all around us.  We are proud of our international connections and excited about the potential we all have for various collaborative initiatives.
