This initiative seeks to foster the ongoing formation of men and women for others that is at the heart of the Catholic and Jesuit mission of the 28 Jesuit college and universities in the United States. Through meaningful service projects open to all Jesuit-educated alumni, graduates across the nation are engaged in shared service that demonstrates the life-changing and enduring power of a Jesuit education.
This spring, alumni across the country participated in community service projects sponsored by the following Jesuit colleges and universities:
Canisius College, Buffalo, NY:
The Canisius College Offices of Campus Ministry and Alumni Engagement, along with the Alumni Association, invited all Jesuit university alumni in the Western New York area to participate in our Spring Community Day of Service on Saturday, April 20th.
Fairfield University, Fairfield, CT:
Fairfield University hosted the 25th annual Hunger Cleanup on Saturday, April 6th. Hunger Cleanup has become a Fairfield tradition where more than 500 students, faculty, staff, alumni, family, and friends join together to volunteer for a half-day serve-a-thon at local nonprofit agencies in the Greater Bridgeport area in Connecticut.
Fordham University, New York, NY:
Fordham University invited all Jesuit-educated alumni in the New York City area to participate in a Sandy Saturday Service event on May 4th, part of Fordham’s ongoing effort to help rebuild neighborhoods devastated by Hurricane Sandy.
Gonzaga University, Spokane, WA and other locations:
On April 13th, the Gonzaga University community participated in the Gonzaga student service initiative, The April's Angels, in Spokane, WA. Gonzaga alumni in Boston, MA volunteered at Community Servings on April 16th and on April 27th, Jesuit alumni joined the Gonzaga Seattle Chapter at Rebuilding Together Seattle to repair the home of a low-income homeowner at no cost to the recipient.
John Carroll University, Cleveland, OH:
The Jesuit Day of Service is a spring service event in which the 10 Northeast Ohio Jesuit institutions—inspired by the spirit of Saint Ignatius of Loyola—lend a helping hand to serve neighborhood organizations in the Cleveland area. Begun at John Carroll University in 2005 as a class project with 100 people, Jesuit Day of Service now engages 750 people serving eight Cleveland neighborhoods; this year's Day of Service was Saturday, April 27th.
Loyola Marymount University, Los Angeles, CA and other locations:
Loyola Marymount University celebrated its fifth annual Alumni for Others National Day of Service on Saturday, April 20th in Los Angeles and other locations across the country.
Regis University, Denver, CO:
Regis University hosted the 13th annual Regis University Easter Service Project on March 23rd. This Easter Basket collection collects Easter goodies for needy Denver-area Catholic children.
Saint Joseph's University, Philadelphia, PA and other locations:
Saint Joseph's University hosted Global Community Day on April 20th for members of the SJU Community – alumni, current students, faculty, staff, parents, friends, and others – to gather together and serve their local communities.
Santa Clara University, Santa Clara, CA and other locations:
Santa Clara University celebrated the National Month of Service in April with projects for alumni and friends of Santa Clara across California and the West Coast. Service projects continued in May in Los Angeles and Portland.
Seattle University, Seattle, WA:
Seattle University Alumni Relations and Magis hosted the National Jesuit Alumni Day of Service on Saturday, April 27th for Seattle University alumni and alumni of other Jesuit colleges and universities.
University of Scranton, Scranton, PA and other locations:
The University of Scranton hosted its annual Alumni Day of Service on April 13th. Last year, over 400 people participated in our Day of Service, and this year there were 14 service sites in 12 cities across the country.
